Oppression (Exhaustion) (澤水困, Hexagram 47) is the 47th of the 64 hexagrams in the I-Ching. It consists of the upper trigram Duì (Lake) (兌, Kim) over the lower trigram Kǎn (Water) (坎, Thủy). Adversity wears one down. The great man brings good fortune through inner strength.

    Line 5 yang: His nose and feet are cut off. Oppression at the hands of the man with the purple kneebands. Joy comes softly. It furthers one to make offerings and libations.

    Line 6 yin: He is oppressed by creeping vines. He moves uncertainly and says, “Movement brings remorse.” If one feels remorse over this and makes a start, good fortune comes.
